### Surcharge



A surcharge is an additional charge, tax, or payment that a company adds to the existing cost of a good or service. It is an extra fee imposed by a merchant as per the business requirements. For example, a merchant can charge service fee to users who pay using a credit card of a particular brand or add a surcharge for cash on delivery payments to discourage its use. Surcharges can take various forms, such as service fees, handling fees, disposal fees, and processing fees.


### **Juspay Surcharge** 



Juspay enables merchants to add extra charges to the order amount based on the selected payment instrument and other conditions.

Merchants can define their own business logic to specify the details of the surcharge amount that needs to be added to an order. Juspay displays this surcharge on the payment page and automatically adds it the order amount as per the defined logic. This transparency in the checkout process helps reduce user dropouts.

Juspay offers surcharges on a wide range of payment instruments, including both online and offline payments. With a simple user interface on the Juspay dashboard, merchants can efficiently create and manage multiple surcharge logics.

### When are the surcharge details displayed during checkout?

If you are using Juspay Hypercheckout (payment page) and have configured the surcharge logic on the Juspay dashboard, applicable surcharge details will be displayed to the user on the payment page once a payment method as been chosen, along with the updated order amount.

If you are integrated with the Juspay ExpressCheckout SDK or API, the payment page UI is under your control. You can display the surcharge details, along with the updated order amount, on the order amount breakup screen.

### What changes are required by my PA/PG to support this feature?

This feature is gateway agnostic. No change required at the gateway’s end for you to enable surcharge logic using Juspay.
